The question we hear most in clinic is a fair one: do I really need sunscreen if my skin is dark? Our answer is yes, and the reason is less about burning and more about marks. In melanin-rich skin, sunlight keeps dark marks dark for longer. Daily protection is the quiet habit behind almost every routine we suggest.
What to look for
- Broad spectrum, which covers both kinds of sunlight that matter
- SPF 30 or higher for everyday Uyo weather
- A texture you enjoy, because you will only use what you like
- Tinted or sheer formulas if white cast bothers you
How much
Most people use about a third of what they need. A simple guide is two finger lengths for the face and neck. Apply it as the last step of your morning routine, after moisturiser, and give it a minute before make-up.
Reapplying in real life
If you are indoors most of the day, morning application may be enough. If you are on the road, at an outdoor event or walking in the afternoon sun around Ewet, reapply every two to three hours. A powder or stick makes this easier over make-up.
When sunscreen stings
Some formulas sting around the eyes or on sensitive skin. Try a mineral formula, patch test on the jaw first and bring the bottle to your consultation if anything bothers you. We are always happy to look at your products with you.
Sunscreen will not erase anything on its own. What it does is protect the work you and your skin are already doing, every day.
