A water test that costs very little

Three SS2 pupils built a test kit that checks borehole water for common contaminants using paper strips and a phone camera. They tested water from twelve homes in their own neighbourhoods during the half-term holiday.

Weeks of evenings in the lab

The team worked in the lab after prep three evenings a week, supervised by their chemistry teacher. They learned to keep careful records and to repeat tests until results agreed.

What comes next

The team will present at the national fair in the spring. The school has offered the kit design free to any school that wants to use it.
