About us

From eleven people to a family of many

Harbourlight is a non denominational Christian church in Asaba. We gather to worship, to learn from the Bible, to care for each other and to serve our city.

Our story

Twenty two years of grace

  1. 2004

    A classroom on Sundays

Eleven people meet in a rented primary school classroom, with a keyboard borrowed from a neighbour.

  2. 2009

    A home of our own

The congregation buys a plot off Riverside Road and builds the first hall by hand over two dry seasons.

  3. 2015

    Harbour Hands begins

A food parcel ministry starts with twenty families. It now serves more than three hundred.

  4. 2021

    The new hall

A larger hall with solar power opens, with a children's wing and a quiet prayer room.

  5. 2026

    Still growing

Two Sunday services, a thriving youth ministry and a tutoring club for 120 children.

What we believe

The heart of our faith

  • God

One God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who made all things and loves the world.

  • Jesus

Fully God and fully human, who died and rose again, and offers forgiveness and new life to all who trust him.

  • The Bible

God's word, trustworthy and true, our guide for faith and life.

  • The church

A family of ordinary people, called to love God, love each other and serve the world.

Key passages: John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8 to 10, 2 Timothy 3:16

How we live

Four things we hold dear

Rooted in the Bible

Clear, careful teaching that connects to everyday life.

Warm welcome

No one should sit alone or leave unnoticed.

Prayer first

We pray before we plan, and keep praying after.

Serving the city

Our doors, our hands and our wallets open to Asaba.

A small wooden chapel, much like our first meeting place

Governance

Accountable and transparent

Harbourlight is a registered charity governed by a board of trustees and a team of elders. Our accounts are independently reviewed every year and summarised for members at the annual general meeting in March.
